Day is celebrated every year on 15 January, this year India is celebrating its
74th Army Day.
This day is
celebrated to show the importance of the army for the country. Every year on
this day those soldiers of the army are honored who have served the country
selflessly.
This day is
celebrated in the headquarters of all the Army Commandos; it is worth noting
that on this day, on 15 January 1949, the Army got its first Indian Chief.

Kariyappa took over the command of the army from General Sir Butcher.
General Sir
Butcher was the last British Commander-in-Chief in 1949, noting that General
Kariyappa was the first Indian officer to be awarded the 'Order of the Chief
Commander of the Legion of Merit'.
On the occasion of Army day World's largest national flag made of Khadi cloth
Today, on
January 15, on the occasion of the Army, the world's largest national flag made
of Khadi cloth will be placed for public display on the Indo-Pakistan border in
Jaisalmer.
This
monumental national flag will be displayed at Longewala (Jaisalmer), the place
that was the main center of the historic war between India and Pakistan in the
year 1971. This will be the 5th public display of the national flag since the
unveiling of the first national flag in Leh on 2 October 2021.
What are the features of the monumental national flag?
This
national flag is 225 feet long and 150 feet wide. Its weight is about 1400 kg.
In making the
flag, 4500 meters of handspun and woven khadi fabric have been used, the
diameter of the Ashoka Chakra located in the flag is 30 feet.
This
monumental national flag, symbolizing the collective spirit of Indianness and
heritage craftsmanship of Khadi, was prepared by the Khadi and Village
Industries Commission (KVIC) to celebrate the 'Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav' on the
occasion of 75 years of independence.
