News: 'Mother of orphans' Sindhutai Sapkal passes away
Recently
renowned social activist Sindhutai Sapkal passed away due to a heart
attack in Pune.
She was
popular in the Marathi language by the name 'Anathanchi Maai', which
means 'Mother of Orphans'.
Sindhutai
was famous for the upbringing of hundreds of orphaned, abandoned, and destitute
children as well as the rehabilitation of women.
Many
celebrities including the President and Prime Minister of India and Maharashtra
CM Uddhav Thackeray also condoled the death of Sindhutai.
Who was Sindhutai Sapkal
Sindhutai
Sapkal
was born on November 14, 1948, in the Wardha district of Maharashtra. They used
to earn their living by singing and begging in trains, but later they started
adopting orphans and abandoned children.
Sindhutai
also ran an orphanage in Pune named 'Sanamati Bal Niketan Sanstha', she
had taken more than 1000 orphan children as God. Apart from this, Sindhutai
also did remarkable work for marginalized communities; he received more than
750 awards for social work.
He was also
awarded the Padma Shri in the year 2021. Apart from this, in 2010, he
was also awarded the Ahilyabai Holkar Award by the Government of
Maharashtra. In 2010, a Marathi biopic on his life titled 'Mi Sindhutai
Sapkal Bolte' was also released in Maharashtra.
