Every year 19th
December is celebrated as Goa Liberation Day.
Goa was
under Portuguese rule at the time of India's independence on 15 August 1947.
In the year
1961, Goa was liberated from Portuguese rule by the Indian Armed Forces through
'Operation Vijay'.
This day of
19 December marks the same victory of the Indian Armed Forces.
PM's program in Goa
Prime
Minister Narendra Modi will also attend this year's function to be held on the
occasion. On this occasion, PM will also inaugurate several development
projects in Goa, this list includes the following:
- New South Goa District Hospital
- Renovated Fort Aguada Jail Museum
- Super Specialty Block at Goa Medical College
- Aviation Skill Development Center at Mopa Airport
- Gas Insulated Substation at Dabolim-Navelim, Margao
Apart from
this, the Prime Minister will also distribute several awards.

History of Goa
The ancient
name of Goa is also Gomantak, the history of Goa situated on the west coast of
India is considered to be very ancient. It is said that once Lord Parashurama
stood on the high peak of Sahyadri and shot an arrow towards the sea.
The history
of Goa in the medieval period tells that Goa was ruled by many rulers in the
past. Goa was a part of the Satavahana Empire in the first century BC.
In 1470 AD,
Goa was established under the rule of Bahmani Sultans, after which Adilshah
captured Goa. Adilshah's rule in Goa lasted till 1510 AD and after that Goa was
occupied by the Portuguese and after independence, they were in possession till
1961.
The British
left India on 15 August 1947 due to the sacrifices and efforts of many of our
freedom fighters, but even after attaining independence, the Portuguese rule
remained in Goa. Finally in 1961 Goa was liberated from Portuguese rule by the
Indian Armed Forces through 'Operation Vijay'.
